TENBURY Wells Women’s Institute had a special meeting in August when they sat in the Methodist Hall garden and were entertained by the Tenbury U3A ukulele orchestra.

The theme was strawberries so they had a strawberry and cream tea and the table decorations were pink white and red flowers.

It was an excellent afternoon with seven very talented ukulele players who played diverse music ranging from Abba to Cliff Richard.

Vicky, one of the WI members, joined them in the second half and played the bones - she is very talented. As well as being talented musicians, the orchestra has several comedians who entertained their audience between songs.

The raffle had a strawberry theme with lots of lovely pink and red prizes and the flower of the month which was of course red was won by Meg Rudd.

Next month Alf Jenkins is coming to talk to the WI about World War 2 on Clee Hill.

"We are looking forward to him coming as he is such a good speaker," said Lyn Archer. This will be on September 11 at 2.15pm in the Methodist Hall when new members will be welcome. Please phone Lyn 01584 810702 for more information. The summer outing this year will be to Westonbury Mill Water garden on September 18.

"Sadly we have to report the death of Joan Jones one of our most long standing members," said Lyn Archer. "Joan had been our president, secretary and treasurer on several occasions and will be missed by all of us. She was so helpful and a great friend to us all."
