NICK Corston is a Ludlow man who got steamed up about technology when his dad Peter brought him a book ‘Rocket Boys.’
He now lives in London but that book inspired Nick to set up a business ‘Steam Co’ that helps inspire primary school pupils develop an interest in creativity, science and technology.
Nick, aged 54, and a dad himself remembers when his dad, former Ludlow councillor Peter, now 81, brought him that book.
Recently, Nick returned to his old school, Ludlow Primary, to run a steam day in which pupils got involved in a range of activities.
“I'm 54 and was born and bred in Ludlow,” said Nick.
“There's an Advertiser front page somewhere from 1976 with me on the front heralding a new fad called skateboarding and calling a public meeting to build a skate park in town.
“We had the meeting but the skate park took another 30 years!
“My dad Peter Corston was a town and district councillor for years and had devoted his life to the community - at 81 he still runs a table tennis club, fundraises for the Millennium Green and volunteers in the Oxfam bookshop where he found a book that literally propelled me to another level.
“I co-founded and now run a national charity STEAM Co to get communities to work with primary schools to inspire children and their futures.”
