LUDLOW Fire Station has won an award for raising the most money for the Fire Fighters’ Charity over the past year.

The south Shropshire firefighters were presented with the Dave Bishton Charity Shield at an awards ceremony held by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service for raising more than £4,197 with car washes, raffles and collections.

In just two days, they raised £3,050 with a bucket collection and draw at the Medieval Christmas Fayre at Ludlow Castle.

During a Christmas campaign, firefighters worked with the local Barclays Bank branch to achieve £450 of match funding for its Christmas draw.

The Fire Fighters’ Charity provides invaluable rehabilitation and recuperation services to fire and rescue services across the UK.

It runs three national centres that provide a range of services to serving and retired firefighters, support staff and their dependents. The £9million a year it costs to run its services comes entirely from donations from the public and fire service staff.

Ludlow Fire Station is one of 23 fire stations in the county.
