CAPTAIN Zack Yarranton reckons Tenbury “have missed a couple of tricks” despite making a strong start to life in Worcestershire Division Four.

The men from Penlu cruised to a third win in their new surroundings with a 10-wicket whitewash of Hallow on Saturday.

And with a change of format to come, the skipper believes his side are capable of competing with the best after their elevation from Division Five last year.

“We have had a decent start and feel reasonably happy but at the same time we have missed a couple of tricks,” said Yarranton.

“The first week saw us miss a chance while blowing out the cobwebs, we should have won and then we bowled out Claverley for 118 before being dismissed for 55.

“They had two really good opening bowlers but I still felt we could have done better than 118 and had we won those two we would be right up there.

“We beat West Malvern to the Division Five title last season and they are top. There is every reason to be believe we can mix it with anyone.

“Our targets are modest. I think we have a team that is good enough to win this division but perhaps this year needs to be about finding our feet before going for it next time.

“We are going out to win every game and see where it takes us and while I think we’ll probably come up short this year, you never know.

“It has been a close start and we’re into win-lose from next week. Teams will have to put out five bowlers limited to 10 overs so those teams that have put out their best two for sustained periods won’t have that advantage any more.

“If you know they have 17 overs, you can’t really see them off but when they only have 10 you can bide your time to see what else they have.

“A lot of these teams won’t have five top bowlers, they might have three but you know there will be some runs in there for you somewhere. The table will start to move a bit now.”

Tenbury put their hosts in to bat and Rob Farrar (5-24) led the way as Hallow were skittled for 60 inside 25 overs.

Andrew Adams (38*) and Aaron Morris (19*) remained unbeaten to close out the match in 10 overs.

“Saturday was our easiest game of the season and for a long time to be honest,” said Yarranton. “I think we were finished by 3.30, I have had longer games of football!

“It was a bit surprising. They may not have the strongest team in the league but I did not expect them to be that weak.

“We have had a couple of decent games against them in the past but this time, it wasn’t much of a contest. We went through the motions and won.”
