REGULATIONS that could help turn old and derelict industrial land into new housing have been welcomed by a Ludlow property lawyer.
Jennifer Hicks-Jones, an associate at Ludlow law firm mfg Solicitors, has backed the Government's move to make councils in England publish a list of “brownfield” land by the end of this year - making it easier for developers to identify land ripe for re-investment.
She said Brownfield Land Register rules came into force in April and means that, by December 31, every local planning authority must have prepared and published a register.
“The aim of these Whitehall-led rules is to make it easier for developers to obtain planning permission to turn ugly, derelict land back into something useful, especially housing or business use,” added Jennifer Hicks-Jones.
“By turning eyesore sites into new housing, the changes can tackle the shortage of homes and refocus attention towards land that has previously been developed.
“This is a big step as not only will it help meet the growing need for new homes here in Shropshire, but it should also make getting planning permission simpler.”
