Teenager Lucy Walton produced some sparkling golf in testing conditions to lift the Ludlow Ladies Scratch Bowl.

And it was an impressive achievement for the 17-year-old A-level student as she was returning from injury and had managed just one round of 18 holes before taking on some of the region’s best women and juniors at the Ludlow Golf Club event.

Walton, who plays her golf at The Worcestershire, needed to get to grips with the superfast greens and a stiff breeze. But the two handicapper made light of the conditions by shooting a handicap reducing round of 71 gross.

And after winning the event, she admitted that in addition to being delighted with her victory, she was also happy to return to her pre injury handicap of one.

Taking second gross was talented Shropshire scratch golfer Sophie Johnson from Telford with a gross 75 while Bethany Round, from Enville, completed the top three with a gross 77.

Winner of the Best Nett prize was Georgia Pritchard from Beau Desert with an excellent 72 playing off six, with nine handicapper Hannah Golding of Brocton Hall in second place with a nett 74.
