THE Ludlow Mascall Centre was venue for a special event to raise awareness of the importance of Fairtrade.

It was one of a series of initiatives during Fairtrade Fortnight.

Most people enjoy tea, coffee and snacks, yet millions of farmers who produce the treats those in the more prosperous world enjoy are struggling to make a living because they still aren’t paid what they deserve according to the Ludlow Fairtrade Group.

They say that by buying Fairtrade products in Ludlow, consumers are supporting local shops and businesses and at the same time helping smallholder farmers and producers in the developing world work their way out of poverty.

Ludlow Fair Trade supporters are organised a number of Fairtrade events around the town.

These included an illustrated talk on sustainable farming in Nepal at Ludlow Methodist Church, Broad Street; the Traidcraft Spring Fair Big Brew at Ludlow Mascall Centre.

Also local schools - Ludlow Infants, Ludlow Juniors, Bitterley Primary, Bishop Hooper Primary and Ludlow Secondary, have taken part in a poster competition.
