BOSS Darren Worthington urged Tenbury Town to make the most of a “very kind” March schedule by sealing the Herefordshire One crown.

Worthington discovered his side would travel to Hinton Reserves, the team they beat 8-1 on Saturday, before playing second-bottom Fownhope Reserves and then Kington’s second string next month.

And with an eight-point cushion at the top, albeit from one extra game, the manager reckons rivals Hereford City could struggle to keep pace during trips to Wellington Colts and Holme Lacy reserves.

“The fixtures have just been released and I have to say, they have been very kind to us,” said Worthington. “I think we could be in a commanding position come the end of March.

“If things go our way, we might even have won the title by then. Hereford City have some hard games next month and it could all fall our way if we do our part. We are just waiting for one slip, if that happens it will be in our hands.

“Our squad is near enough fully fit now so we should have good numbers available for the run-in. I cannot fault the players, they have put so much into this season and provided we keep it going, they will get their rewards.”

Declan Bright returned with a four-goal haul, including a hat-trick in the opening 45 minutes, with Mark Boucker (2), Toby Gittens and Keiran Fish adding gloss to the scoreline.

Bright had bagged a brace before the 10-minute mark, bringing down a deep free-kick before finishing well and then ripping down the left to cut inside and beat the keeper at his near post.

Not to be outdone, Boucker notched a rare header and a shot on the rebound before setting up Bright for the goal of the day, playing a perfectly-weighted through ball which was blasted into the top corner.

Bright got his fourth and Tenbury’s sixth after the interval and despite conceding a consolation, the hosts kept the ball rolling with a pair of late goals.

“Dec was absolutely unplayable in the first half,” said Worthington. “The touch for his first, the way he created the space to finish it off, was brilliant.

“At 5-0 the game was never in doubt so we made a couple of changes to keep things fresh. The play wasn’t as neat and crisp but Hinton understandably tried to keep the score down.

“It got scrappy but we scored some more goals which was pleasing, it showed we can take the game to opponents in different ways.

“The players are being shuffled around but they are taking to different positions and sharing out the goals. It is good to see.

“Our main goal scorers are still getting on the score sheet but everyone else is chipping in as well and that is a good sign for what we’re looking to achieve.”

Town have no match scheduled for Saturday with the reverse against Hinton Reserves next on the agenda.
