WEST Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion has visited a centre near Tenbury that provides training for young people.

He was at The Bluestone Centre at Bleathwood for the opening of a new community café.

The Bluestone Centre which has expended to provide educational and training facilities for young people, has been established by Paddy Brennan, founder of the Tenbury Boxing Club.

Young people, some of whom have had difficulties fitting into a traditional school environment, are given training at the centre in a variety of trade and artisan skills,

These include cooking, brick-laying, plastering and horticulture.

The young people come to the centre from Tenbury and the Teme Valley as well as other parts of the West Midlands.

Support for the centre has been given by the Police and Crime Commissioner.

“We were supported by Bill Longmore when he was the commissioner and I am delighted that we have the backing of the new commissioner John Campion,” said Paddy Brennan.

Paddy Brennan, a former international amateur boxer, established the Tenbury Boxing Club, before moving to Bleathwood just outside of the town.

The centre continues to be home for the boxing club and operates as a community fitness centre.
