TENBURY Cricket Club moved up to fifth place of the Worcestershire County League Division Four South after an impressive six- wicket win at home to Barnards Green last Saturday.

Despite days of persistent rain, excellent work from the groundsman ensured play could start on time and Tenbury skipper Jay Da Costa had no hesitation in electing to bowl first after winning the toss.

Barnards Green made a steady start as the reached 23 without loss in seventh over.

However, an inspired spell of bowling from Tom Boden, who was also celebrating his 24th birthday, gave Tenbury control of the game as the visitors crumbled to 39 for 9.

Boden finished with career-best figures of 8 for 36 whilst spinner Aaron Morris took 2 for 25.

A nagging last wicket partnership of 50 frustrated Tenbury bowlers as they searched for their second win of the season. However, a fine Yorker from Boden removed the final batsman and ensured a mere 89 runs were required by the home side for victory.

A blistering 50 off 42 balls from opening batsman Ed Corfield ensured Tenbury got home in quick time with just 19 overs required.

The first team face a daunting trip to second-placed Birlingham this Saturday who lie 50 points above Tenbury in the Worcestershire County League Division 4 South.

After a fine bowling performance from George Pearson, a poor batting display gave the second team their second defeat of the season at Barnards Green.

A spell of 5 for 37 from Pearson and two wickets each from Jim Yeomans and Ady Edwards gave Tenbury a target of 155 for victory.

However, the visitors could only muster 51 runs with 15 not out from Bob Felce being Tenbury's top score.

Despite their heavy defeat, the seconds remain top of Division Four South Second XI with an eight point advantage over second-placed Old Elizabethans.
