ARTS Alive presents top folk artists Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer in Songs and Tales from the Land of the Midnight Sun. Smörgåsballad is an entertaining and surprising evening drawing on the rich heritage of Swedish midsummer music and tales, customs and celebrations and transporting audiences with melodic Swedish traditional drinking songs, frolicking Maypole dancing, charming age-old midsummer celebrations, compelling 'Nordic noir' folk tales, and yet more drinking songs!
Swan and Dyer play a great range of instruments: the haunting nyckelharpa, the cow horn (one of the world’s earliest communication devices) and some of the bagpipes that didn’t come from Scotland. Suitable for all ages, their evenings are packed with toe-tapping tunes and songs of love, death, trains and dressing up.
Comments Arts Alive Director, Sian Kerry: ‘After a previous show, the promoter said "something completely different performed by highly talented musicians.” We look forward to another unique evening’s music and fun.’
Smörgåsballad can be heard at Dorstone Village Hall (01981 550451) on Saturday, January 21 at 7.30pm and at the Playhouse Cinema, Leominster (01568 616460) on Sunday, January 22. To book online, visit artsalive.co.uk
