A YOUNG Tenbury woman is in the shortlist for a poultry industry award.

She was one of three finalists for the 2016 Zoetis British Poultry Trainee Award.

The award, which recognises talent, enthusiasm and commitment to training, is sponsored by Zoetis and organised in conjunction with the British Poultry Council and the magazine Poultry World.

Chloe Carter rears broiler breeders for Cargill Meats on a farm near Tenbury.

Chloe comes from a family already working in the poultry industry.

At school she helped her father rear pheasants and then did weekend shifts on a broiler unit where he worked.

After working on broiler sites at Evenjobb in Powys, she joined Cargill Meats earlier this year and is now assistant manager of a 30,000-bird breeder unit.

“If young people knew how far they can go and how much they can achieve by going into poultry, I believe they would be both shocked and eager to join the world of poultry,” said Chloe.
