POLICE are warning people to be on their guard after a rampage of theft and criminal damage at a south Shropshire beauty spot.

People out for a Bank Holiday Sunday walk returned to find cars smashed and items stolen.

Between 12.30pm and 1pm Sunday, August 28, numerous vehicles were broken into whilst parked at the car park near to the Bog Visitor Centre in Stiperstones.

The vehicles had windows smashed and handbags containing multiple items such as mobile phones were stolen.  These had been left on view in the front of the vehicles

At this time police say that this appears to be a one off incident but we urge caution to vehicle owners to not leave valuables on show when parking and leaving a vehicle in known beauty spots.

Any information can be passed to West Mercia Police by calling 101 and quoting incident 0392S 280816.
