ERYN Lawley, who was a student at Ludlow College, has returned from a course to help her campaign on social and environment issues.

She was sponsored by the environmental group Ludlow 21.

'The Summer Gathering' hosted by People and Planet is a university-based student-led organisation mobilises students to address environmental and social justice issues.

It is an annual event that brings students together from all over the UK to learn peaceful campaigning skills, provide an opportunity to build a network of sympathetic contacts, and gain insights and information about complex social and environmental issues.

"I was introduced to a wide range of issues and campaigns that I was unfamiliar with,” said Eryn, who put a young person’s perspective at the launch of the Ludlow People’s Alliance.

She attended a workshop run by members from Hope Not Hate, an advocacy group that raises awareness about racism and fascism in the UK.

“In this, I was educated about problems that migrants encounter and how to help them," added Eryn.

"I would recommend any university student look up People and Planet, especially in relation to their Fossil Free Divestment campaigns. Universities often invest in big oil companies: money that could be invested in cleaner renewable energies.

“Twenty-four universities have committed to full divestment because of pressure from student-led fossil-free campaigns. When I attend Portsmouth University, this is something I will definitely get involved in!

"Many thanks to Ludlow 21 for sponsoring me to go to People and Planet's 'Summer Gathering' that has left me empowered, enthusiastic, and ready to do something positive!"

Kim Holroyd, Ludlow 21 member, says sponsoring Eryn was a wise investment for the future.

“Eryn's come back informed, motivated and with campaign skills that will allow her to effect positive change,” she said.
