THE late summer exhibition at GreenStage Gallery in Bishop's Frome opens on Saturday, and features the vibrant cycling paintings of Kathryn Sassall and striking abstracts by Ed Ball.

The latest series of oil paintings by Kathryn Sassall captures a number of key moments in the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire, allowing

viewers to enjoy the ride.

"There is a noise element in all sports," says Kathryn. "Whether it’s the coaches calling after the cyclists, the rev of an engine or the enthusiasm of a crowd of fans.. I try to capture the intensity of that experience."

Joining Kathryn on the gallery's walls is Edward Ball, a Hereford-based artist who has had joint and solo shows throughout the UK and Canada.

“My work is all about producing compelling and vibrant art that has a sense of movement and energy within it. I listen to sound and music and then paint it in an abstract form, abstracting directly from the sound and rhythm. I paint with fast flowing gestures and intensity, which gives me the ability to capture something striking and vibrant, with the feel of organic vitality and motion. I like to draw the viewer into my work with a sense of intrigue.”

The exhibition runs until Tuesday, September 20 at the GreenStage Gallery. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5.30pm and Sundays, midday to 5pm. Also open on Bank Holiday Monday, August 29 and Monday, September 12 during h.Art Week. For further details, visit greenstagegallery.co.uk
