A BRAVE youngster from Cleobury Mortimer is now under the care of specialists at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children.

It is the latest turn for Jack Edwards, aged seven, who touched the hearts of people throughout Ludlow and south Shropshire when he was diagnosed with leukaemia four years ago.

Jack is currently under the care of top specialists at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital who are considering a trial drug treatment.

Aged just three when he was diagnosed with the disease, the youngster from Cleobury Mortimer, has fought hard to beat his illness enduring intensive chemotherapy.

Just a few months before completing his treatment, in early December last year, tests showed that Jack had suffered a relapse and is now awaiting a bone marrow transplant.

A donor was found after hundreds turned out at Lacon Childe School in January to be tested.

His plight has already inspired previous successful fund raising events to help Jack and his family through their ordeal. An auction held at the Social Club, Cleobury Mortimer, in January, raised more than £10,000.

Despite his illness, Jack is renowned for always having a smile on his face. Fund-raising efforts have given him and his loved ones a much needed morale boost.

His mum Chrissie Woodhouse has maintained a bedside vigil beside Jack, as well as trying to keep as much normality as possible in the lives of her two other sons, Jamie, eight and Zac who is five.

"Thank you is not enough for everything people have done to support Jack,” said Chrissie Woodhouse,

“I just want everyone to know how grateful we are, people's generosity and kindness have taken my breath away."

Following his relapse, family friend Rachel Shields, 31, organised a glow run where hundreds turned out in the cold to light up the south Shropshire town.

One very special guest even made an appearance, Jack himself.

"Jack is doing all he can to 'kick cancer's butt' and we want to show that the community is still right behind him sharing his fight,” said Rachel Shields.

"People have been so generous already, but Jack still has a long road to recovery ahead."

She has dubbed her team of fundraisers and all supporters ‘Jack's army'.

Now there is a further opportunity to help Jack and his family.

Community fundraisers are organising another money-making event for brave little Jack.

They are urging as many people as possible to join a 5k/10k fun run and fun day at Farlow and Oreton Village Hall on Saturday (July 23) from 10am. Other activities will include a Tug-of-War competition.
