A CHARITY golf day played every year to provide a lasting legacy to a young man from Tenbury has been declared a great success.

The golf day in memory of Adam Millichip, a young man who died in a tragic accident at work, attracted hundreds of golfers.

Held every year at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club, it raised money for the Adam Millichip Foundation which helps people with disabilities to get involved in sports and leisure activities.

Adam was 27 at the time he was killed in a tragic accident at work in 2007, leaving a young son.

Now in its seventh year, the charity has raised just over £50,000 just from the golf day itself.

This year, the weather was a huge bonus and the course at Cleobury Mortimer was in good condition with the scoring reflecting this as a number of teams produced some great scores over the 18-hole stableford format.

Fifty-two teams went to battle and the first prize eventually went to four local men from Tenbury: Aaron Morris, James Owens, Paul Higgins and Sam Williams with a great score of 94 points.

The sponsors' “tented village” was a success with many companies showcasing their products and the presentation evening was once again well supported with the guest speaker Mel Clarke giving a great insight to her success as a Paralympian archer.

She has competed for GB for 15 years and become World and European champion as well as representing GB in Beijing in 2008 where she won bronze and also won silver at the 2012 London Paralympics.

Michael Thomas from McCartneys was in fine form as he auctioned a number of lots including signed Steven Gerrard and Ryan Giggs framed shirts.

Next year’s golf day is already in the calendar, it will be held on Friday May 5.

The charity thanks all the sponsors and donations that they received and if anyone would like to sponsor or help next year please contact foundation trustee Mark Benbow on 07966 935938.
