VAN drivers and owners in Ludlow and south Shropshire are being warned about a series of thefts.

West Mercia Police is issuing vehicle security advice to motorists after a spate of thefts from motor vehicles in Shropshire, with vans in particular being targeted.

In most incidents the vehicles were locked and secured and it is believed some of the offences have involved the use a device to enter the vehicle without causing any damage.

In other offences, vehicles have been broken into by having windows smashed or doors forced open and in most instances power tools have been stolen.

The offences have predominantly taken place between 8pm and 4am on various days of the week.

Advice is make sure that vehicles are locked and parked overnight in a well-lit area.

Where possible tools and valuables should be removed and consideration given to fitting an immobilising or tacking device.

It’s also suggested that tools should be marked.

Suspicious behaviour should be reported by calling West Mercia Police on 101 or 999 if a crime is underway.
