THERE are big plans from Tenbury Chamber of Trade to help boost trade in the town.

It involves going a new website and changes to the Christmas plans.

The Chamber is set to launch a new website that can be used by every business in the town to promote itself.

It will also become a first point of call for people keen to find out what is going on in Tenbury and the Teme Valley.

“We know that the web is becoming increasingly important and improving our site is something that has needed doing for a long time,” said Sarah Thompson, secretary of the Chamber of Trade.

“The new website will be launched in the near future and we hope that it will become a one-stop shop for people wanting to know about Tenbury, its events and shops.”

“Hopefully instead of going to different places it will be a single point. We know that if people come to Tenbury for the events then the shops should benefit.”

There will also be changes to the plans for the run up to Christmas which is a vital time for shops in the town.

The big change is that the switch-on of the lights will move from the second Friday from the end of November to the Saturday and is also likely to involve the closure of Teme Street.

“Having the lights switched-on on a Friday as we have been did not work for everyone as it stopped people attending who were coming home from work and also caused delays,” Sarah Thompson said.

“Moving to a Saturday with a road closure should prove much better.”

“We hope to further improve the Christmas lights but will not be putting tinsel on the lights in the future as this caused a lot of problems.”

The Chamber of Trade runs regular events throughout the year to raise money for the Christmas lights and this included a recent cake sale in the town centre.
