TOP versus bottom produced the shock of the season so far in the Premier Division of the Herefordshire League as leaders Tenbury United were humbled by basement boys Ledbury Town.

United, with only two defeats in their opening 13?league games, conceded four goals inside the opening 30 minutes to finish on the wrong end of a 4-1 scoreline.

It was a horrible day and a horrible defeat but Tenbury, with a squad stretched by work commitments and unavailability, had no complaints.

Revitalised Ledbury’s early torrent meant the game was over by half-time and Tenbury’s second-half reply from Dale Withers was nothing more than a consolation.

United co-boss Nick Stocker said: ““It was a much-changed Ledbury side from when we played them earlier in the season and I think they will surprise quite a few teams in the New Year.

“It’s a massive blow for us and I think that’s our title chances probably over. We said that we would get to Christmas and see where we were before getting too carried away.

“Everybody in the club is feeling down at the moment and it's both mine and Aaron Morris’s job to get things going again.

“Sometimes a defeat like this is needed to get everyone back to their best. We haven’t been good lately so it had been coming. Now we must make sure we go again.”
