STOKESAY Court near Ludlow has had a weekend of celebrations to mark its time as a Red Cross Hospital during the First World War.
There were two days of activities to commemorate the centenary of the opening of Stokesay Court as an auxiliary military hospital.
Visitors could take part in house tours of the rooms where soldiers recuperated. There was a chance to view exhibits from the Stokesay Court and British Red Cross archives, and see a Great War Society re-enactment field hospital.
People had the chance to step back in time and experience how Stokesay Court might have been transformed as part of the war effort.
The weekend was devised from research into the Stokesay Court and British Red Cross archives and from the Shropshire Regimental Museum.
Proceeds were shared with the British Red Cross.
On Sunday there was a guided walk with Keith Pybus on a gentle three mile walk from Stanton Lacy to Stokesay Court.
He has researched the story of one of Shropshire’s First World War VCs who gained his country’s highest award for valour at Gallipoli.
