LUDLOW College students are celebrating the success of this year’s production ‘Cabaret’ at the town's Assembly Rooms.

The cast of 29 was a mix of students from both A Level Drama and the college’s enrichment programme.

Thrilled with the ‘Cabaret’ style set-up of the Assembly Rooms, performers pulled out all the stops to present the well-known musical set in Berlin during the lead up to the Second World War.

Dan Clewlow, who played Cliff Bradshaw in the production, a penniless novelist from England, said: “The show has been a brilliant experience, especially performing in a cabaret style. It has been a big challenge because despite all the glamour and costume the show has a very serious side concerning the rise of Nazism in that era.

"I really hope the performance did the show justice and the audience took as much away from the show, as we did being in it.

"It's hard to think that a college so small can have so many incredibly talented students. I will treasure these experiences for the rest of my life."

The show’s director, Duncan Thomas, said: “I'm very proud of our cast and crew. Cabaret is a difficult show - both technically and in terms of its subject matter - but they all rose magnificently to the challenge and delivered four fantastic shows.”

Carly Adams, in charge of choreography and musical staging, said working with the student ensemble had been a rewarding experience.

"We have had enormous amounts of fun putting together the numbers during the college enrichment sessions on Wednesday afternoons," said Carly,

"The dedication, professional attitude and hard work of this talented young cast has produced individual and group performances of which they should feel very proud.”
