PHILIP Dunne MP visited Ludlow Hydro Co-operative to view the site of a proposed hydroelectricity project on the horseshoe weir at Ludford.

Ludlow Hydro Co-operative has now launched its share offer to raise funds for the construction of a new electricity producing turbine in Ludlow.

The scheme is a community based one giving priority to locals who wish to invest and be involved in the running of this renewable energy project.

“Feasibility studies show a small hydro turbine would be a good option in the River Teme,” said Jeremy Thorp from Sharenergy.

“While these installations are becoming more common across the UK, there are few opportunities for the public to become a member of a co-operative running one.

"Here is a chance to get involved in generating clean energy. This is a real win-win opportunity for the people from the Ludlow area.”

Local MP Philip Dunne, who has been supportive of the project throughout the development phase, visited Ludford Mill to view the site and learn more about progress in raising the necessary funds. He met with Angus Marshall and Tony Cant, directors of Ludlow Hydro.

“I have been campaigning to encourage a generation of renewable energy from the rivers in the Ludlow constituency for some time,” Mr Dunne said.

“So I am pleased that this effort by Ludlow Hydro co-operative is close to getting off the ground with its imaginative plans for a small hydro scheme at the horseshoe weir on the River Teme in the heart of Ludlow.

“I was impressed by the work gone into designing the scheme which respects the heritage of its location and is sensitive to the environmental impact.”
