THE long awaited start of work on the Tesco site in Tenbury will begin next week.
It comes after Councillor Tony Penn, who represents the town on Malvern Hills District Council, wrote to the Tesco chief executive Dave Lewis.
The work will be in the vicinity of the old fire station that has been earmarked for Tenbury Museum.
This area next to Temeside House will form part of the access to the supermarket on the old cattle market site.
But the work will not necessarily be followed immediately by the start of construction of the supermarket that is estimated to take nine months to build.
Tesco has confirmed that it intends to go ahead with the project at a time when the supermarket group is to close a number of supermarkets throughout the country.
Cllr Penn, who has supported the supermarket scheme since it was first muted five years ago, said he is pleased that there are signs of progress with the project.
