A PLANNING application has been lodged to build a ‘house in a hill’ in one of the most attractive parts of Ludlow.

The scheme is to build a futuristic house on the hillside at The Linney near to Castle Meadow that is to the east of the site.

To the north are Ludlow Rugby Club and Ludlow Castle Bowling and Tennis Club.

The application has been lodged by Andrew Badlam and designed by Hereford based RRA Architects.

At the heart of the scheme is an earth sheltered house built into the hillside using a subterranean design.

The house would be built in one of the most attractive and desirable parts of the town within the Ludlow Conservation area. It is surrounded largely by traditional 19th and 20th century stone houses.

A feature of the scheme would be its environmental credentials with insulation naturally provided by the ground and the opportunity to install either an air or ground source heat pump.

It is described as being ‘highly energy efficient’ with minimal impact on the site and allowing natural planting to continue over the roof surface including mixed grasses and native wild flowers.

The proposed building is described as an earth sheltered dwelling set within a natural slope.
