A BUNGALOW could be knocked down to make way for 28 homes in Leintwardine.

Philip Rogers-Coltman is behind the planning application that could see four bungalows and 24 houses built.

Iris and Landy Shurmer are the couple currently living in Seedley Lodge bungalow in the village High Street which could be coming down to make way for the development.

They have rented the cottage for almost three years and remain optimistic about the future.

Mrs Shurmer, 74, said: "We love it here – it is a lovely spot. It (the plan) is alright as long as we can stay in Leintwardine."

The planning application comes after a 45-home development off Rosemary Lane in the village was refused last month.

In the application for the 28 dwellings in High Street, the planning agent, Halls Holdings Ltd, address concerns raised by residents for the Rosemary Lane pitch.

They said the current application is "distinctly different" as it does not affect the hilltop setting "because it is fully enclosed by existing hedgerows and it is not possible to see into the application site from adjoining countryside to the west."

They also said the development will not affect the linear nature near the centre of the village.

They said: "To the east of Watling Street the modern housing developments are distinctly different from the remainder of the village and they do not add any character.

"It is the area of modern housing which catches the eye as an extension to the village and extending this further to the east will exacerbate the point.

"Paradoxically, infilling within the site at Seedley Lodge, which is a fully contained site, is not exposed in reality to further housing to the west. This will then physically fit in in a logical fashion without starting a potential large protrusion of modern development out onto the western side of the village."
