A SUPERMARKET in Ludlow has been supporting a scheme to collect food for the less fortunate.

FareShare saves food that might otherwise go to waste and re-distributes it through charities, such as breakfast clubs, food banks and homeless shelters.

Tesco in Ludlow has agreed to top up donations of needed items by 30%.

Ludlow MP Philip Dunne visited Tesco to see the food collection and is encouraging other supermarkets to take part.

“I am pleased to support FareShare at Tesco in Ludlow at their third year collecting before Christmas,” he said.

“Food donated to this excellent scheme is centrally pooled, and local food banks can apply to receive supplies they need.

“I am contacting food banks in the constituency to make them aware of this scheme and encourage them to apply for donated food.

"Tesco top-up donations of canned goods and other needed items so I am pleased local residents are giving so generously to this appeal this Christmas.”
