THE age of steam powered its way through the region on the weekend – and there is more to come.

The Christmas Chesterman service came through Ludlow Railway Station on Saturday as it made its way from Bristol to Cheshire.

The trip was organised by the mainline steam tours group who are due to return to the region on the weekend.

Fans of rail history will be interested to know that the 'Marches Castle' service is passing through Bristol, Hereford, Ludlow and Shrewsbury on Saturday.

Estimated times will see the steam engine pass through Abergavenny at 10.44am before arriving in Pontrilas 20 minutes later.

It is due to pass the Tram Inn at 11.14am, Hereford at 11.23am and Leominster at 11.41am.

The service will take on water at Ludlow from 11.54am before continuing its journey from the Shropshire town at 12.05pm.

The estimated time of arrival at Shrewsbury Railway Station is 12.44pm.
