THE poppy appeal got off to a flying start in Clee Hill.
Nearly £1,000 was raised when people took part in a game of bingo.
Total profits from the evening were £786 with more than 100 people attending.
“The branch would like to thank all who joined us for a most enjoyable evening, and all the local businesses who donated the fantastic prizes that were on offer, as well as our county chairman Neil Jenkins who turned bingo caller for the night,” said Fay Vass, secretary of the Clee Hill branch of the Royal British Legion.
“As the nation’s leading Armed Forces charity, the legion spends £1.6 million a week, or £84 million a year on vital welfare work, providing social, emotional and financial care and support to serving and ex-Service people and their families.
“But for every person they reach, there are many more who are still struggling alone.

"The demand for their support continues as service men and women, young and old, call on them for emotional, financial and practical help."
The Clee Hill branch's annual service of remembrance will be held on Sunday November 9  at Clee Hill Village Hall at 6.30pm followed by refreshments at the Golden Cross, Clee Hill.
