A CHURCH in south Shropshire has fired the starting pistol on the Christmas Fair season.
With a week still remaining of October there was a pre-Christmas Fair at St George’s Church in Clun.
There was a church on the site in Saxon times and it has a Norman tower of the type that was distinctive of churches in the border country.
The church, apart from the tower, was largely rebuilt in 1877 based upon a plan by the famous Victorian architect G E Street.
This was necessary because the original building had become dangerous.
