SEPTEMBER 27 saw the official opening of Kevindale a residential care home for elderly and dementia residents in Broome just outside Aston on Clun, near Craven Arms. The Philippine Embassy in London designated Consul Mylar Grace Macahilig on behalf of the Philippine Ambassador to cut the official opening ribbon at an event that was attended by over 80 people.
Kelvindale is run by Kenneth and Norriz Andal and the home, in a large single storey building, has 14 beds.
Local Shropshire Councillor Charlotte Barnes was also invited to take part in the ceremony and held a candle that was lit before the opening - a Philippine good luck tradition. Other guests included Dr Adrian Penney from Bishop's Castle Medical Practice and Phillip Delves from the Harry Tuffin’s supermarket. After the opening, guests were treated to a buffet of Filipino dishes which included a pig that had been cooking on a spit for eight hours.
Charlotte Barnes said, "Kenneth and Norriz Andal have worked extremely hard to open this care home and I wish them every success in the future and congratulate them on receiving their first resident, Mrs Rebecca Magill.”
