MOTHER of two Lucy Peet from near Ludlow is running to help a hospice.

Lucy, who is in the final year of a nursing degree, is planning to run a half marathon to raise funds for a local hospice.

The student from the University of Worcester who is from Dhustone, near Ludlow, will be pounding the streets on Sunday (October 19) in the Bupa Great Birmingham Run.

She is running for St Michael’s Hospice near Hereford, where she has worked on placement as part of her nursing degree.

“St Michael's Hospice is a truly remarkable place; they are amazing and invited me into their team, and nothing was too much trouble,” said the 35-year-old.

“In the future one day I would love to be able to work for them; they have given me inspiration.

"I felt I wanted to give something back to the team and the patients and families who use the service, so I set myself this massive challenge.”

Lucy, who has a nine-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old son, has been training hard, as well as trying to complete her degree and also building a new house.

“I must be mad to be honest and when I first started training I didn't realise how much of my time the running would take,” she said.

“I try and exercise five to six days a week, whether it’s running or in the gym for an hour. Luckily I have an amazing partner who helps me, along with supportive family and friends.”
