WORK is taking place to rebuild a historic gazebo in Burford.

Stephen Treasure of S. Treasures & Sons from Ludlow has removed and replaced two rotting columns from the Gazebo in the gardens and has replaced them.

The original columns were sculptured from one tree trunk.

Now the whole structure is being re-pointed, plastered and painted and will be perfect for entertainers such as string quartets, jazz bands and harpists to perform, while visitors enjoy Champagne teas or lunch in the soon-to-be, newly-restored Cafe Bar Garden.

The history of the Gazebo is somewhat of a mystery but it could have been an ice house, music pavilion or summer house.

Burford House was built in 1726 by Willliam Bowles. At the top of the pavilion is his family coat of arms that were originally on the main entrance gates to the house.

William Bowles' grandfather was the founder of Vauxhall glass-works and a friend of Samual Pepys.
