LUDLOW is land locked but that has not stopped a ‘sand artist’ from the town launching a programme of exhibitions of her work.

The paintings by Abigail Humphries can be seen at the Cliffe at Dinham Restaurant.

Since developing her technique of painting with sand and acrylic nine years ago Ms Humphries has focused on painting ‘Sand People’.

“Having exhibited annually for many years at Paul Brooks’ previous quality establishments I am delighted that he has selected me to exhibit my work in the Cliffe," said Ms Humphries.

"I created this new body of work with The Cliffe in mind. Knowing that the walls would be quite colourful, I chose to go with darker more neutral colours so that they would complement the rooms.

“The paintings at the Cliffe are all linked in one way or another, either by colour, or the possible meanings within the paintings. My intention is not to tell the viewer what my paintings are about.

"My hope is that each viewer will discover something emotive in the painting that someone else will not. A figure that may look sad to one person may appear happy to another.”

Originally from Farlow, in south Shropshire, she also has her paintings on permanent exhibition at Fishmore Hall in Ludlow.
