PUPILS at Rushbury Primary School, near Church Stretton, are getting some practice in for their first ever Mini Bake Off to be held in the Autumn in aid of local charity, Shropshire Rural Community Council.

The mini bake off campaign for schools is building on the success of the charity’s inaugural Great Shropshire bake off which saw over 100 entries of cakes, pastries and biscuits battling it out for the accolade of “star baker”.

Head teacher Diane Pye said: “We currently hold weekly cooking and baking lessons using mainly produce from our own school garden and then tailor recipes to suit whatever we have available, so the bake off fits in nicely with that and we are all looking forward to taking part.”

Elodie Home, fundraiser for the charity added: “The Great Shropshire bake off will be back again on September 28, at Brompton Cookery School, near Shrewsbury and we will be welcoming keen bakers of all ages from across Shropshire and beyond to take part, with visitors welcome to come along and enjoy our Vintage Pop Up Café, local stallholders and much, much more.

“Several primary schools have registered to take part in our mini bake off event where the children are asked to bring in their homemade cakes which will then be judged at school or baked in school as part of regular lessons, with the winners bring crowned Star Baker of the school.

“It should be a light hearted event where children can have lots of fun baking and raising money for a local charity at the same time.

“Shropshire RCC has been working for over 50 years with local people to develop solutions to rural problems and helping to build thriving communities and in particular to provide a helping hand for vulnerable people.

“We rely on the support and generosity of local people, groups and schools to continue and extend our work to help local people living in Shropshire.”
