LUDLOW managed to go the dogs at the weekend despite the threat of thunder storms.

Luckily for the organisers of the first ever Ludlow Dog Day the weekend's unpredictable weather was kind to the event held at Stokesay Court.

The dog day was organised by Ludlow Rotary Club and was the result of many months of hard work. A total of seven hours of entertainment were devoted to all things canine.

As promised the Paws For Thought dog display team brought thrills and spills to the event. Hounds from Ludlow Hunt also put in an appearance and mingled with the crowds.

Youngsters also had plenty to do with an activity area that included an inflatable assault course, slides and face painting. There were also a variety of trade stalls including animal photographers, dog food, accessories and gifts.

Owners were spoilt for choice when it came to classes to enter. Among the choices were best rescue dog, best vintage dog (over seven years), scruffiest dog, fastest sausage eater, best junior handler (under 16 years), two most mismatched dogs, best conditioned dog, prettiest bitch, most handsome male, cutest puppy, best cross breed, best six legs (dog and handler), and the dog that the judges would most like to take home.
