New cancer support group in Ludlow

PEOPLE in Ludlow will soon be able to get help from a new cancer support group.

The knowledge that you are suffering from cancer can cause a variety of conflicting emotions, ranging from anger and resentment to panic.

Ludlow Cancer Support Group has been set up to provide a sociable and welcoming environment where, through friendship and shared experience, members can find additional strength to cope with their situation.

“Existing support groups are based in Church Stretton, Hereford, Shrewsbury or Telford”, said Rosemary Wood, chairman of the Ludlow Cancer Support Group.

“Our aim is to offer help and support to people in the Ludlow area and our hope is that those attending will look forward to meeting other members, enjoy one another’s company, and gain strength from each other.”

Meetings will be held fortnightly in the main hall in St Peter’s Church. A variety of activities will take place, including painting, quizzes, and quilting. There will be a book and jigsaw swap, and, the group may even tackle Cryptic crosswords. Expert speakers will discuss new treatments, nutrition and diet, complementary therapies and mindfulness.

There will be opportunities to indulge in a manicure, enjoy reflexology or an Indian Head massage. Outings, lunches and a garden-party will be held, and a newsletter circulated to keep members informed of activities.

Membership of the group is free to people who have been diagnosed with cancer, regardless of how long ago the diagnosis was made.

The group will meet for the first time in St Peter’s Church in Henley Road, Ludlow, on Friday September 12 at 11am.
