Lucton School pupils celebrate success at the Independent School Association’s (ISA) National Triathlon.

The event also hosted by Lucton School saw more than 200 children aged eight to 16 years old compete across five different age categories.

Ollie Howl won gold in the 13-14 age category, Jack Williams secured silver in the 11-12 age group and George Jones and Jack Sneyd won gold and silver respectively in the 9-10 year old race.

Mark Warren, a teacher at Lucton Prep School and a triathlon coach, organised the event alongside director of sport, Graham Muckalt.

Warren praised the effort of the competitors: “Our team was fantastic and to win four medals is wonderful: however, just completing a triathlon in a very special achievement and everyone who took part should be very proud.”

Graham Muckalt added: “We were delighted to partner the ISA and host a national competition. We’ve had so many positive messages and we hope that this will be the start of a successful annual event.”

The triathlon is one of a growing number of sports competitions that the school hosts. Next is Lucton’s fourth Herefordshire Schools Aquathlon, a combined swimming and running race for all local children aged seven-11 years old.

“The aquathlon has proven to be really popular,” said Mark Warren. “This year’s event will take place on Monday, June 30 and invitations have been sent out, but if any other local junior schools would like to attend, then we would love them to be involved.”

Anyone wishing to enter their school in the competition should contact Lucton School on 01568 782000 or email enquiries@luctonschoo.org.
