Extra parking lined up for Tenbury
Updated 9:55am Thursday 15th May 2014 in News
PART of a Tenbury sports field will be turned into a car park.
But the scheme means that the area will only be used as an overflow.
A section of Palmers Meadow will be dug up and a solid surface put down to carry the weight of cars.
However, this will be covered with grass and the area will look like a playing field and used for sport and recreation when it is not needed for cars.
Money has been found in the Worcestershire County Council budget to do the work and the new car park is intended to be available by the time that the work begins on the long delayed new Tesco supermarket.
“Tenbury Town Council was very wise in suggesting that the car park should be a permanent installation that would only be used when necessary,” said Ken Pollock, who represents the town on Worcestershire County Council.
“This means that it will be constructed strongly enough to carry cars but be surfaced with grass so that it looks like the existing playing field. As it will only be used at busy times, it will not need to be permanently fenced so that it will in effect disappear when not in use.”
Further additional car parking will be provided by the removal of the waste disposal facility from the Palmers Meadow car park to the Business Park in Bromyard Road.
This will provide an additional 30 spaces.
An application has been made to move the waste disposal facility to the business park and it is hoped that it can be completed before the end of the year.
