LOVERS of great food and drink did not let less than glorious spring weather put themselves off when they came to Ludlow.

The Spring Food Festival was spread over three days with a meet the brewer event getting things going on Friday evening.

A feature of the festival was that it enables a range of new products and companies to show what they can do.

Such as husband and wife partnership Brian and Leanne Crowther with their Merangz – a mallow centre in a crisp shed made from a traditional slow baked Swiss recipe.

One of the new exhibitors was Heartease Farm with a range of soft drinks including a ‘British Blackcurrant Crush’.

One of the ever popular meals that was in fitting with a chilly May morning was the ‘toastie’ and The Ludlow Food Centre was selling them made with its own bread, cured meats, pickles and cheese.

When it got a bit warmer the Little Shropshire Ice Cream Company had a product to cool people down.

Damson Tree also had a new vodka made from fruit grown in the rolling hills of Herefordshire.

The traditional staples of the spring festival – bangers, beer and bread continued to prove popular.
