A COMMUNITY Centre in Church Stretton has been recognised for its contribution to health.

The Mayfair Community Centre has won a GSK Impact Awards for outstanding contributions to improving health and wellbeing.

The Mayfair Centre was one of 10 charities to win a 2014 award from GSK, which works in partnership with the King’s Fund, and will receive a £30,000 donation as well as help with training and development.

The charities will go on to compete for the title of overall winner and an extra £10,000 donation, announced at the GSK IMPACT Awards Ceremony on May 15 at the Science Museum in London.

“I was delighted to learn that Mayfair Centre in Church Stretton in my constituency has won this award, and will now go on to compete for the title of overall winner,” said Philip Dunne MP for Ludlow.

“The Mayfair Community Centre does excellent work in Church Stretton to keep people active, both physically and mentally, and has an ambitious project for a health and wellbeing centre which has secured more than £100,000 from community fundraising, to which this award will make a significant contribution.

"I wish them luck in the final.”

Established in 1997, the GSK IMPACT Awards are designed to recognise and reward charities that are doing excellent work to improve people’s health. They are funded by GlaxoSmithKline and managed in partnership with The King’s Fund.
