VISION Express has officially opened its new local store at 6/7 High Street, with a Leominster cancer campaigner performing the ribbon-cutting alongside the Ludlow store team, which has collectively provided vision care to the local community for over 50 years.

Meryl Hobbs declared the Vision Express store officially open in a special visit representing the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT), which is a nominated charity of Vision Express.

Following its acquisition of the former Rayner Opticians, Vision Express has completed a refresh of facilities and equipment to help the store deliver a thorough eye health service to the Ludlow community, where it has traded from for around 18 years.

Store manager Callum Hair and his six staff are set to fundraise for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT), hoping to donate £1,000 over the next 12 months.

Callum, a dispensing optician, is pleased by the response from customers. He said: “The store has been in this location for around 18 years and, with such a long-standing and experienced team, it has established a solid and loyal customer base. Our customers seem happy with improvements made to the store as we’ve become part of the Vision Express family. The store has a fresher, professional feel and we now have sophisticated sight test equipment, alongside offering a wide product range.

“We’d like to thank Meryl for joining us to celebrate the opening of our new store, as a local representative of the charity we are going to be supporting.”

Meryl is a former trustee of the charity, which supports families and individuals affected by the rare childhood cancer retinoblastoma. CHECT also raises awareness and funds research into the disease.

Vision Express offers an eye examination to best practice guidelines of the College of Optometrists (COO), with each Vision Express optometrist being a qualified health professional and registered with the General Optical Council.
