South Shropshire needs you - female firefighters

Ludlow Advertiser: The Shropshire and Wrekin Fire and Rescue Authority is holding a Women's Fire fighting Day in Craven Arms. The Shropshire and Wrekin Fire and Rescue Authority is holding a Women's Fire fighting Day in Craven Arms.

FIREFIGHTERS do not need to be large burly macho men - that's the message from a recruitment drive for more women to get fighting fires.

The Shropshire and Wrekin Fire and Rescue Authority is holding a Women's Firefighting Day in Craven Arms to encourage women to join it as part-time paid firefighters.

The authority says some of the attractions of the job are good pay, lots of public recognition and work close to home.

Those women that live or work within five minutes of their local fire station are invited to find out more at Craven Arms Fire Station on Saturday (March 8) between 9.30am and midday.

Women interested need to be physically fit and reliable and be able to report for duty at any time within their agreed hours.

Training is provided and there are also promotion opportunities.

The day will offer a chance to talk to women firefighters and a fitness instructor. There will also be a chance to take a tour of the fire station to look at all the equipment.

For more information about the day call Laura on 01743 260189.
