Reunion for Ludlow lorry drivers
Updated 10:20am Tuesday 11th February 2014 in News
LORRY drivers from a company that was once one of the biggest employers in Ludlow have come together to remember years of ‘trucking.’
A reunion was staged at the Ludlow Brewery for drivers and their partners from Lloyds of Ludlow.
The business that was started in 1937 now operates on a small scale but at one time had nearly 100 lorries and trucks operating all over the UK and Europe.
Tony Ashbridge, who still drives for the company where he has worked for more than 40 years, said the idea was to bring drivers together for perhaps the last time to exchange memories.
More than 70 ‘knights of the road’ and their partners attended the event with the oldest driver present aged 81.
“At one time the company had more than 80 trucks and we travelled all over Europe,” said Tony.
The party included a disco and hog roast.
“Some of the drivers are getting on a bit and it was good to have a chance to meet people and exchange memories,” added Tony.
