CLUN Fire Station has been saved.

The Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service is recommending that the station which has been threatened with closure is retained.

Fire chiefs, who are expected to rubber stamp the recommendation, also look likely to keep all the stations with part time fire fighters that had been threatened with closure.

There had been serious concerns about the closure of the Clun station that would have meant crews from the nearest stations would have taken at least an addition 20 minutes to reach the town.

Philip Dunne MP, who undertook a survey of local opinion, has urged fire chiefs to keep Clun Fire Station open even if this involved delving into financial reserves.

"This is good news for Clun," said the MP.

"I shall continue to work with Shropshire Fire and Rescue to help them argue the case for fair funding for fire services in rural areas."
