A HISTORIC attraction near Tenbury and Ludlow has given people the chance to see what happens when there is no one looking.

Berrington Hall in Ashton is opening the doors early to show visitors the vital conservation work that usually goes on behind the scenes.

The National Trust’s Georgian mansion is preparing the building and its contents for the new season.

“The conservation team has a very short window to get the things ready for the start of the season in February;" said visitor and commercial operations manager Tina Salter.

“We thought that it was about time we showed our visitors what it takes to keep the house looking its best, so we are opening the doors early and introducing them to some of the work that goes on.”

Berrington Hall will be open at weekends throughout January and February from 11am to 4pm, with conservation work taking place between 11am and 1pm each day.

“Our expert staff have to undertake some odd tasks, from hoovering the ceilings to hunting for bugs in the carpets," said conservation and engagement manager Ellie Jones.

"These conservation in action weekends will give our visitors the chance to meet some of the team and find out what they are working on.”

Berrington Hall is open each weekend until February 9, then daily from February 15 until November 2.

The gardens, parkland and tea-room open from 10am and the shop and mansion open at 11am.
