A TOURIST attraction close to both Ludlow and Tenbury has launched a new campaign to recruit volunteers.

Berrington Hall, a National Trust property, is calling for helpers to join their team to kick start the 2014 season.

Berrington will be open seven days-a-week from February 15 to November 2 and at weekends during the winter months, so volunteers are urgently needed.

Ellie Jones, conservation and engagement manager, said: “There are plenty of ways for people to get involved at Berrington, from talking to people about our fabulous house to getting stuck in and helping the gardening team with the vegetable garden. We even have a new buggy this year so will need volunteer drivers.”

An open day is being held at Berrington Hall from 10.30am to 1.30pm on Monday January 27. During this time current volunteers will be chatting about their experiences and explaining how volunteering can really make a difference to their lives and the local community.

The open day will give interested people the chance to find out more about the huge variety of roles available from gardeners, rangers and countryside helpers to room guides and events assistants.

Tina Salter, visitor and commercial operations manager, said: “Our volunteers are part of the dynamic Herefordshire team who are leading the way in bringing our places to life and creating a fantastic atmosphere.

“We understand that your time is precious and so we’re flexible. Our volunteers can help out just a few hours every so often or regularly every month or more. Some volunteers come as a family to help out – it’s up to you.

“Volunteering is about having fun, being involved with the heritage and countryside on your doorstep and making a difference to our visitors’ experience.

“Our volunteers are incredibly important to us as we simply couldn’t open the doors without their superb support, great ideas and enthusiasm.”

For people currently looking for work or thinking about a new career, volunteering can help by improving CVs; aiding time management, planning and prioritising expertise; and helping to keep social skills fresh and energised.
