A GROUP working to reduce the problem of alcohol abuse in Ludlow is evaluating the outcome of a survey of young people.

More than 150 young people completed a questionnaire and now experts are undertaking an analysis to see what can be learned.

Over the past couple of months Ludlow’s Community Alcohol Partnership (LCAP) has been collecting the views of local residents on their perception of young people and alcohol – if they consider there to be a problem within the town, where any problem areas are, and what alternatives should there be for young people.

"We had more than 150 replies and the information is currently being collated and then as a group we will act on the results," said Councillor Tracey Huffer who chairs the group.

The partnership has received funding from central government via Shropshire Council and over the past 12 months that funding has been spent on youth workers on Friday and Saturday nights working out and about around Ludlow talking to the young people, educating them on alcohol and supporting them.

There has also been training for the off licences that sell alcohol in the town and money towards the youth festival earlier in the year.

The Ludlow Community Alcohol Partnership is currently made up of representatives from Shropshire Council, West Mercia Police, Ludlow Town Council, Co-op, South Shropshire Housing Association, South Shropshire Youth Forum, Ludlow School and Ludlow College.
