A DECISION about the future of a waste disposal facility in Ludlow will be made in early January.

Shropshire Council is considering closing the Coder Road skip and waste recycling site as part of cost cutting measures.

But Ludlow Town Councillors are urging a rethink because they fear that such a move would cause major inconvenience and also increase the amount of fly tipping in the area.

Councillor Richard Huffer who represents Clee on Shropshire Council fears that the closure of the site will result in farmer's picking up the tab as more rubbish gets dumped in the countryside.

There is also concern that with the nearest alternative waste disposal site in Craven Arms there will be environmental pollution as a consequence of the increased number of car journeys.

A final decision will be made when the result of a public consultation is known.
