Exhibition to show future of Tenbury

A MAJOR exhibition will be staged in Tenbury to show people how the town will look for the next 100 years.

Worcestershire County Council will stage the show in early December. It will provide drawings and plans as to how Tenbury will look when the work to improve public areas are complete next year (2014).

The scheme will provide most of the town with new footpaths, changes to the roads and street furniture.

Ken Pollock, who represents Tenbury on Worcestershire County Council, said that the exhibition will show the finals plans prepared following a number of consultations.

The details will be revealed but it is known that the intention is to use sandstone imported from India as this is cheaper than the York stone originally proposed.

It is unlikely that a timetable for the work will be revealed next month as it will need to link in with the building by Tesco of the new supermarket on the former auction yard site.

Tesco is believed to be planning to begin construction in the spring of 2014 with the store opening in the autumn.

A presentation will be made to Tenbury Town Council at their meeting on Monday December 2 and details of the exhibition will be released shortly.

Future plans for the town will also form part of a neighbourhood plan that will be prepared by Tenbury Town Council. This will cover issues such as housing development and highways.

It will be linked to the South Worcestershire Development Plan being prepared by Malvern Hills District Council in conjunction with Worcester City Council and Wychavon District Council.

Neighbourhood plans form part of localism legislation introduced by the Government and intended to give greater say to communities about what goes on in their own back yard.

Once a Neighbourhood Plan is in place it will not be mandatory but must be taken into account by district councils, county councils and other agencies.
